Hashimoto, who lives in Nagoya, Japan, was a modest entrepreneur and a devout Christian.
Each morning, he deepened his faith through meditation, gazing at the old crucifix hanging on one wall of his office as he prayed. Yet the space felt cold and lifeless. He longed deeply:
“May this place become not just a workspace, but a sanctuary where the message of faith breathes!”
Then one day during prayer, a vivid scene came to mind—Christ’s suffering illuminated by light, surrounded by raw, living emotion. Hashimoto sketched that image into his notebook, and soon resolved to bring it to life.
He began searching for a company capable of crafting a custom lighting sculpture that embodied his vision. Through his online search, he discovered Lumispace, a Korean firm specializing in custom light panels.
He sent them a concise email:
“I’d like to install an embossed 3D acrylic light sculpture measuring 2.5 m tall and approximately 1.43 m wide (ratio 1.75:1) on my office wall.”
Days later came the reply:
“We will express your faith in light. We’ll use CNC for precise embossing and backlight it to breathe life into it.”
Those sincere words captured Hashimoto’s heart.
Lumispace’s design team converted the religious painting into a high-resolution vector file, then meticulously designed the carving depth, line weight, and light dispersion angle.
The CNC 3-axis machine ran continuously for over 10 hours a day, engraving the rigid acrylic board in 0.1 mm increments with a high-precision end mill.
A high-transmittance optical film was inserted where the light would shine, and a 4000K LED was chosen to create a warm and natural atmosphere.
The completed work consisted of the 2.5 m acrylic panel, light base, control box, and wall mounting brackets.
For export to Japan, the item was packed with custom polyurethane foam and a wooden crate, and declared under HS Code 9405.60 for lighting/advertising equipment.
Lumispace named this endeavor “Project Gloria” and shipped it via LCL to Nagoya Port, including a Japanese installation guide and video.
About 6–7 days later, the piece arrived at Hashimoto’s office. On installation day, electrical installation expert Yuichi Maeda opened the wooden crate and gasped in awe:
“Sugoi… this isn’t just lighting. It’s a true work of art. To bring this sacred expression to life through technology… participating in this project is a great honor.”
He proudly told his team,
“We’ve evolved beyond mere installation—we’re working with art now.”
Following Lumispace’s installation manual, they connected the control box and LEDs, and carefully mounted the sculpture on the wall bracket.
Before turning it on, Maeda nodded at Hashimoto. When Hashimoto flipped the switch, the office darkness lifted and pure light filled the space.
In the acrylic carving, Christ’s face emerged, along with the sorrow of Mary, Mary Magdalene’s reverent awe, and the soldier’s silent stillness.
This light was more than illumination—it was prayer.
Hashimoto closed his eyes and murmured,
“This is not mere lighting. It’s the Word expressed in light—the living Gospel.”
Maeda replied sincerely,
“I’ve been in installations for over 20 years, but today I truly felt how technology can support faith.”
Visitors to the office paused before the piece—some knelt to pray, others wept quietly. Humble, Hashimoto said,
“Korea’s Lumispace created this work. It’s light, sculpture, and faith fused into one artistic expression.”
He began introducing Lumispace to faith communities he knew.
Through this project, Lumispace became convinced: light is more than illumination—it is a medium that moves the soul.
